Financing

It is not possible to study biology as a part-time course. Any person planning to work alongside his or her studies must organise their working time to fit the lecture plan.

Scholarships

The financing of the studies can be provided by various financial sponsors on a scholarship basis, e.g. Bafög, educational support as a "bank loan", DAKA loans, KfW student loans, "Gute Laune"-scholarship, "Schwächen-scholarship and the German National Scholarship.

Bafög

With BAföG, the state supports initial training at vocational schools, colleges, academies and universities. To apply, the forms must be filled out, as well as a certificate of enrollment and current performance overview must be submitted.

As a rule, students of the B.Sc. Biology who meet one of the following criteria receive a positive performance record for the 4th semester:

after the 1st examination window of the 4th semester 10 of 15 modules (alternatively 77 CP) or
after the 2nd examination window of the 4th semester 12 of 15 modules (alternatively 92 CP).

This regulation is valid until 31.03.2025.

From 01.04.2025 all students of the 4th semester need 12 of 15 modules (alternatively 92 CP).

These rules do not apply to students who have started their studies in the postponement procedure and to students of the B.Sc. Biology PLUS International and the B.Sc. Quantitative Biology. Please contact the study office during the 4th semester.
